A Climate Positive Workforce

Climate change is happening.  At Cuttsy+Cuttsy we’ve taken a number of steps to try and minimise our impact on the environment and we’re always on the lookout for new ideas.  

It all starts at ‘home’

We’ve been enjoying all the comforts of our new office space over the past few months – it’s beautiful but we chose our new space at The Works because it also offered a range of ‘green credentials’.  The building itself was repurposed (saving 1,900 tonnes of CO compared to a new build), is powered by fully renewable energy sources and came fitted with a range of energy saving functions, such as motion triggered LED lighting.

It’s also well connected to local transport links and for the members of our team commuting by bike (perhaps bought via our cycle to work scheme) access couldn’t be easier with the network of cycle lanes connecting us to the town centre and train station.  On site there are cycle spaces, access to bike repairs and maintenance, and even luxurious showers to get refreshed after a sweaty commute!

We also do our bit to reduce the use of single use plastics on site by giving every member of the team their own Cuttsy+Cuttsy branded ‘chilli’ water bottle and we recycle everything we can.  

Picking our print partners

Of course, our carbon footprint extends to the work we outsource to our partners, with the most significant being our print suppliers.  All of our carefully selected printers hold ISO14001 accreditation; an international certificate on how to implement an effective Environmental Management System.  Many also have comprehensive CSR policies and participate in carbon offsetting schemes from organisations such as the World Land Trust.

But there are always ways that all of us can do more and, this month, we decided to become a ‘Climate Positive Workplace’!  We’ve partnered with Ecologi, an environmental organisation that funds carbon offsetting projects and tree planting around the world.  Their mission is to reduce 50% of global CO emissions by 2040 and responsibly plant billions of trees every year.

On our behalf, Ecologi will plant trees to grow our very own Cuttsy forest and fund vital climate projects.  Through our membership each month, we will be offsetting the personal and business carbon footprint for every member of the team.

It’s another step in the right direction, several trees at a time.
