Contracts and Sustainability Manager

With the support and guidance of our external legal advisors, the Contracts and Sustainability Manager will be responsible for negotiating client, supplier, and freelancer contracts, reviewing legal documents, and ensuring the agency’s compliance with all applicable regulations. This role will also take the lead on our sustainability agenda. This includes managing our submissions to sustainability platforms such as EcoVadis and CDP, making it essential to be familiar with legal, contractual, and environmental compliance matters. This role would suit someone with a legal background and a keen interest in sustainability. We would consider a part-time role (e.g., 3–4 days per week).
Key Responsibilities
Contract negotiation and management
- Working closely with our external legal advisors, lead contract negotiations with clients, suppliers and freelancers, ensuring favourable terms while maintaining legal compliance
- Draft, review, and revise contracts and legal documents, such as Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and vendor contracts in collaboration with our external legal advisors, where necessary
- Monitor contract performance and ensure adherence to contractual obligations
Legal document management
- Manage all legal documentation, ensuring they are up to date and properly archived
- Identify and mitigate any legal risks related to client and vendor agreements
Sustainability responsibilities
- Lead the company's submissions to sustainability assessment platforms like EcoVadis and CDP
- Ensure that all submissions meet the requirements and deadlines for sustainability and environmental compliance
- Develop and implement sustainability policies and initiatives that align with company objectives and regulatory requirements
- Stay updated on sustainability trends, regulations and best practice and identify opportunities for improvement
Compliance, risk management and governance
- Ensure the company is compliant with all relevant laws and regulations
- Ensure the company is compliant with Companies House regulations and filings
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal policies related to contract management and compliance
Stakeholder liaison
- Act as the key point of contact for clients, suppliers and freelancers regarding contract negotiations and compliance matters
- Work closely with both our external legal advisors and internal teams (Finance, Operations) to ensure contracts align with the company’s operational and financial goals
Key skills and experience
Legal and regulatory knowledge
- Solid understanding of contract law and regulatory compliance in the UK
- A good understanding of company law
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting platforms such as EcoVadis and CDP
Organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple contracts, submissions, and legal documents simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met
- Exceptional organisational and time-management skills
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
- Legal qualifications (such as CILEX) or a background in contract or compliance management would be an advantage
Essential attributes
- Although a full legal qualification is not necessarily required (e.g., you may be a part-qualified legal professional, or someone returning to work after a break), you must have at least 5 years of experience in contract negotiation, legal document management, and compliance in a similar role
- A keen interest in sustainability reporting and initiatives
- Proven track record of successful contract negotiation and risk management
- The ability to communicate effectively with both clients and vendors
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail
